Nightrise
By Anthony Horowitz

Theme: Challenges

Thematic Statement:
With challenges come difficulty, but as we get closer to our destination we realize it's worth the trouble.

Setting: Reno,Nevada

Point of View: Jamie Tyler

Main Characters and a brief description of each: Jamie and Scott Tyler are identical twins that can read minds. Colton Banes, Kyle Hovey, and Susan Mortlake are employees from the Nightrise corporation. Alicia is the lady who saved Jamie and was a former employee of John Trelawny. Daniel is Alicia's son. Senator John Trelawny is a presidential canidate. Joe Feather works at Silent Creek and rescues Jamie.

Central conflict and how it was related to the theme: Jamie and Scott Tyler were two of the five gatekeepers and have to unite with the other three gatekeepers to save the world from the chaos and destruction of the Old Ones. The story is to be continued in Necropolis, the fourth book in the series.

How was the theme developed?: The theme first developed when Colton Banes and Kyle Hovey tried to kidnap Jamie and Scott Tyler, but they only caught Scott. Next, Jamie had to find Scott and rescue him. On the way he discovered that Scott and him were framed for murder, went to Silent Creek, saved Daniel and escaped, got shot and died, learned he was a gatekeeper, fought in a war, came back to life, saved John Trelawny, found a shortcut to Peru, and Jamie and Scott united with two other gatekeepers which got them closer to saving the world.

If this was a newly selected author, would you read another by him/her? Explain: This was an author I have already read before and yes I would read another story by him.

Which was your favorite? Why?: My favorite book was Nightrise because I have read books by this author and I know that the suspense is at a high standard which is one of my favorite types of books.
